Dutch Glory in Mexican waters

Damen POLA team thanks all European and Dutch parties for their excellent contribution on the tenth SIGMA frigate for the international market.

Last week, Damen handed over ARM Reformador Longe Range Ocean Patrol Vessel (POLA) to the Mexican Navy in the presence of many Mexican authorities. The ship was delivered in record time, less than three years after the contract was signed. This is a great achievement, made possible thanks to the close cooperation between all parties involved on both sides of the ocean.

Damen, as the only Dutch main contractor for complex naval ships, has supplied the tenth SIGMA frigate for the export market. The SIGMA series is the result of the fruitful collaboration between the Royal Netherlands Navy and the Dutch maritime industry. World renowned research institutes such as Marine Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN) were involved in the project, as well as a cluster of seventy Dutch companies, including Thales Nederland that delivered the sensors and the combat management system, including the integration of combat systems, Pon Power, Bosch Rexroth, Radio Holland, Bolidt and many others.

The major Dutch subcontractors such as Heinen & Hopman Engineering, Alewijnse Marine Systems and Den Breejen Zeeland have carried out all local work with production personnel of ASTIMAR 20 in Salina Cruz. These Dutch parties were extensively involved in the intensive technology and training programme offered to the Mexican production staff and crew.

In addition, there are two large Dutch heavy-lift shipping companies, Jumbo Maritime and Rolldock Shipping, that have transported the two modules built in the Netherlands to Salina Cruz to be brought together with the other four modules built in Mexico, for final assembly, integration, commissioning and testing.

Moreover, there were many European marine suppliers, such as MAN, Rolls Royce, Renk, Navantia and Indra, that have delivered excellent equipment and service to the POLA101 project.

A wonderful international project, on time, within budget and with a satisfied customer. Thanks to the participation of the Dutch maritime cluster, we are able to show more than 65% Dutch input every time.
